Top 5 Worst Handhelds

Chances are that if you’re a gamer or not a gamer you’ve owned a handheld console. Well I’ve compiled a list of what I think are the worst handheld game consoles. Let’s get straight to it then.

GAMEBOY MICRO

2005

Well I don’t know what to say apart from this is the most pointless console ever made. Why Nintendo why? The DS had just been released so you think that Nintendo would stop making GameBoy Advance’s and Advance SP’s so well they do only to come out with the biggest, well actually littlest piece of rubbish money can buy. Why the hell would you want a GameBoy so small it could fit in your back pocket, so every time you sit on it it breaks? Why? What it’s purpose. Why does it exist? All it is is a game GameBoy with a tiny screen so you can hardly see what your doing, Nintendo please just forget the Micro was ever made. It is rubbish.

GAME.COM

1997

The Game.com. It would have been good a few years before , but at the time of its release there were already better handhelds on the market and there was of course the release of the GameBoy Color coming up. So what am I saying, well it had the potential to become pretty good. But there was some flaws. It had Internet access, and at the time that was pretty good for the time but what was the point it didn’t have Wi-Fi it had a modem so if you’re plugging into you’re phone line why wouldn’t you just use your home PC? The games for it sound pretty rubbish and well it only sold under 300′000 units compared to other consoles that was terrible. This could have been good but it wasn’t.

SEGA GAMEGEAR

1991

As with most the handhelds in the early 90’s the screen was hard to see, having experienced this first hand you find out just how much of a terrible console this is. Sonic is a pretty good game as you can actually see the screen but most the time it’s rubbish, also the games suck ass. I’m searching through my bag now ummm, let’s see, Sonic, o.k, Ayrton Senna’s Monaco Grand Prix?, Donald Duck and of course Super 68 in 1. How pointless there’s actually only about 20 games on 68 in 1, because the others have just been repackaged with different titles, but are actually the same game, yeah so the GameGear sucks end of story, one interesting point though you can buy a T.V tuner for it, but I doubt you’ll be able to see a thing.

ATARI LYNX

1989

So it did come out two years before the game gear so you would expect it to have problems, but this, this is in a different league. It’s terrible, first problems? well I know it’s sort of unfair but I’ve never experienced this console first hand, I’m just read of numerous problems. Let’s begin with the button’s what’s up with them? Why are they so far apart why aren’t they like the GameGear, I mean that sucked to but at least you could press the buttons easy enough. On this it just looks awkward, next as usual the screen, just like the GameGear the screen was rubbish, so that’s why it is second thanks to it’s rubbish button formation.

NINTENDO VIRTUALBOY

1995

Nintendo made this as a handheld console in the 90’s. The idea was that you put it on your head and it projects 3D image’s onto the screen. Unfortunately it failed the design was huge, it gave you headaches and the library had about 14 games.What was the point? Now I deeply respect Nintendo. I think there the best gaming company in the world, but when you release something like this it ruins my visions. So Nintendo please take this concept and redo it.

Why buy a GameCube?

Well you may have read this and thought, WTF? Am I reading a blog from 2002 or something, well no your not, this is 2008 and this is why you should buy a GameCube. As we all know the worlds best selling console is the PS2, why? I don’t know why because at the time of it’s release, it had two major competitors, both better than it in my opinion. Nintendo’s GameCube, and the newcomer into the console wars the Xbox. I think that the main problem was that the PS2 practically had support for nearly all the games out there, this was because back in 1996 the original PlayStation was released and at that time you pretty much could have a PlayStation or an N64. Now although I think that the N64 was probably one of the best game consoles of it’s time many others didn’t agree. It was often regarded as the baby console, this was because although it had ton’s of games half of them were just, well overly childish. So the PS2 had the most support due to this, and in 2001, Microsoft and Nintendo tried to throw a monkey wrench into every thing Sony had done with the PS2, but any how this may have happened, but look at these consoles today. The Xbox is pretty hard to come by and the PS2 is still around £49.99. So what became of the GameCube, well it’s games were no major deal, mostly Nintendo titles, but that doesn’t matter because just today I walked into GAME, one fo U.K’s top Gaming shop’s, and as I was browsing around I spotted a GameCube, what immediately caught my eye was that this GameCube was brand new and also packaged with a brilliant game and one that can no doubt be regarded as one of the best games of all time, not just one of the best GameCube games, Resident Evil 4, Not to mention it was a limited edition Resident Evil 4 one, and the best bit was the price tag £9.98. I mean that’s amazing value for money, not only did I get a Limited Edition GameCube and a brilliant game but I also got a controller to use with my Wii on Mario Kart and of course Brawl, so I bought one, took it home, set it up and played (after playing a bit of Mario Kart), and it was great. And now I can add more to my consoles an Xbox 360, PS2, Wii and GameCube and soon that will be expanded to the DS as well, so buy a cube, even just for the controller, you could probably sell it on for more on eBay any way.

PC Review: Archlord the free MMORPG

Well I decided it’s time to review a PC game for once. This time I’ve opted for the MMORPG side of PC gaming which is as reported in 2007 something like an 8 Billion dollar industry. That a lot of gamers. But where do you get the best MMORPG experience from. There are many games ranging from Akklaims 9Dragons series all the way to Blizzards hit World Of Warcraft, even Jagex’s Runescape is up there in the ranks. But most of these games are either pay-to-play or pay a one off payment, is there really an MMORPG experience out there that is free yet good enough to thrill us all? Well this is when I turned to Codemasters and NHN games for the answer. A few months back, Codemasters Online Gaming and NHN teamed up to make Archlord. An apperent hit MMORPG, but unfortunately due to a lack interest and a terrible press release (not to mention the numerous problems that appeared in the BETA version) it never took off. But after there failure they may have made a comeback. Just a month or so ago not only were the £9.99 a month fees dropped but also the game was made available to download for FREE. I had to check this out so I quickly booted up Mozilla and using DownThemAll I managed to download the 1.41GB game in around 2hours (I think). But is doesn’t matter that much. Apart from some of the links are confusing to download from, I recommend using AusGamers. But I installed the programme and it worked excellently and here is what I had to say about it:

Archlord has been badly rated in the past so I’m here to make some amends to what was said. Many describe Archlord as “dull” and “repetitive”, But I completely disagree, Once you have played about half an hour you realise the effort but into the game, You see the outstanding mountains, the beautiful villages and the outstandingly rendered characters and then you go back to pwning that annoying Orc in the PK

arena.The game itself relies on three severs Brumhart, Evengarda and Gaihion(the sever I’m on) unfortunately you lack the ability to communicate with characters on different severs but the in server chat is very good. Yes I will agree that there is a lack in races as it’s only Orc, Human and Moon Elf but the options within’ these characters is truly awesome. There are usually quite a few facial features to choose and again with the hair styles. And then again within these races you can be an Archer, Mage or a Knight. My character is a knight I’m only lvl. 5 but so far I’ve only played around hour. As usual with any game I struggled to think of a name so I called myself LoyalKnight. I started off in the village of Anchorville, as all Humans do. It’s one of those happy medieval market town places. I got the jist of things pretty quick, you can either click to move or use the W,A,S,D buttons. I preferred clicking, anyhow, I walked up to the village chief called ‘Remembrandt’ which is a weird name but still, I was then given my first quest. It did seem a bit, shall we say, pointless to some extent but as I progressed quest’s got more interesting and I began to venture out of the Anchorville area and to, further cities with castles and shops and a heck of a lot of guilds. Every where all preparing for battle. With whom you may ask, well, this is the reason Archlord is like no other MMORPG on the market, because you can control the game. If you and your clan are preparing for battle, it will most likely be against the Archlord. The Archlord is an actual player, someone who just like me started of as a puny, insignificant lvl. 1 character who rose up to take control of the game. He controls everything, even day and night. Not even to mention he gets his own dragon to ride. So battalions of players rise up to attack the Archlord, some on foot, some on horse, some even on tiger’s and rhinos. There is a colossal battle which all ends in a result. The next Archlord. So like the sound of it, I mean that’s not the only aim in the game, you can learn skills of all sorts, carving, ransacking, weapon buffing the lot. You can upgrade weapons and armour with elemental
